"Gyokuro Karigane" Kuki-gyokuro [くき玉露 玉露雁ヶ音] 50g
Kuki-Gyokuro, also called Gyokuro Karigane, is a stem-rich gyokuro in a 50g pouch, made from shade-grown Kyoto leaves. Shading concentrates amino acids in the leaf, and the stems carry that umami forward.
The cup is deep, silken, and savory, with a quiet sweetness and almost broth-like body. Steep 10g of leaves in 80ml of 60°C water for about 90 seconds, then resteep with slightly hotter water for a second, brighter pour. A quiet tea for slow mornings.
From Ippodo Tea, in Kyoto since 1717.
