SHURI Glass
Shurijo Castle burned in 2019. What came after was a long look at what Okinawa carries forward: its history, its craft, its sense of itself. The SHURI series puts that into glass. Bright color runs under a soft white flow with gold worked through it, and the three colors stand for rebirth, glory and legacy. Each piece is blown by hand and finished with gold leaf from Horikin in Kyoto.
Red stands for rebirth. It is the deep red of Shurijo Castle, and it carries the way Okinawa gets back up after losing something. An everyday glass. Water in the morning, something stronger after dark.
Every piece is made by hand, so size, color, pattern and the way the bubbles sit will differ from one to the next. Not heatproof. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the drying cabinet and the freezer.
