Ryukyu Glass Policy
Last updated: September 2026
Overview
This policy applies to all Ryukyu glass sold by MOGMOG. Every piece is hand blown to order by artisans in Okinawa, Japan, so the terms below differ from the terms that cover the rest of our shop. Where this policy differs from our Shopping Policy or Shipping Policy, this policy applies.
- Made to order in Okinawa. We do not hold stock of any piece.
- Full payment is taken at checkout. Production begins once the studio confirms, usually within 24 to 48 hours.
- Please allow up to 8 weeks from purchase to delivery. Most orders arrive in 4 to 6 weeks.
- You can cancel for a full refund only before production begins, which in practice means within 24 to 48 hours of ordering.
- Final sale. Not eligible for return or exchange after delivery, except in the cases set out below.
- If your piece arrives damaged, we will make a replacement for you.
- Variation between pieces is expected and is not a defect.
Made to Order and Final Sale
Each piece is commissioned individually for you. Once the studio in Okinawa allocates materials and bench time to your order, that work cannot be resold to another customer.
For this reason, Ryukyu glass is final sale. It is not eligible for the 7 day return window described in our Shopping Policy, and cannot be returned or exchanged after delivery on the basis of preference, color, size, or handmade variation.
Two things are always covered, and both are described in full below: delays, and pieces that arrive damaged or do not arrive at all.
Payment and Production
Payment
Full payment is processed securely at checkout. This reserves production time with the glassblowing studio in Okinawa.
Confirmation
We send your order to the studio immediately. The studio typically confirms within 24 to 48 hours, and handcrafting begins at that point.
Timeline
Please allow up to 8 weeks from your purchase date for production and delivery. Most orders arrive within 4 to 6 weeks. This window covers studio confirmation, hand production in Okinawa, consolidation and air freight from Japan, and domestic shipping within the United States.
Larger Vessels
Some larger pieces are shaped individually and take longer to make. These can take up to 10 weeks. Where a longer timeline applies, it is shown on the product page before you order.
Delays
We stay in touch with the studio in Okinawa as your order moves through production and shipping. Working with independent artisans and international freight does mean that production or transit can occasionally run longer than expected.
If your order will not arrive within the window shown on the product page, we email you directly with a status update. You do not need to check in with us first.
With that update you receive a revised delivery date. You may either keep your place in the studio's production line or cancel for a full refund to your original payment method. This applies even if your piece is already in production.
Cancellations
You may cancel for a full refund only while your order has not yet entered production. Because the studio typically confirms and begins work within 24 to 48 hours of purchase, the practical window to cancel is 24 to 48 hours from the time you place your order. Email hello@mogmog.store as soon as possible if you want to cancel.
Once handcrafting has begun, we cannot cancel your order. The only exception is the delay case described above.
This section replaces the general cancellation terms in our Shopping Policy for Ryukyu glass.
Availability
Ryukyu glass is made to order and is not stocked. We do not hold inventory of any piece, including items shown as available on the site. Every purchase reserves production time with the studio rather than an item already sitting in a warehouse.
If a piece becomes permanently unavailable from the studio, we contact you directly and refund you in full.
Handmade Variation
Every piece is hand blown by artisans in Okinawa using traditional techniques, so no two pieces are alike. Differences in color, shape, bubbles, and texture are part of the process, and the piece you receive may differ slightly from the product photo. These variations are not defects and are not grounds for return or exchange.
If Your Piece Arrives Damaged
Glass travels a long way to reach you, and we would rather fix a problem than debate it.
Inspect your piece when it arrives. If it is broken or damaged, email hello@mogmog.store within 7 days of delivery with photos of the piece and of the outer packaging.
We will make a replacement for you. A replacement is made to order like the original and takes the same amount of time as the first. If the piece is no longer available from the studio, we will refund you in full.
You do not need to return the damaged piece unless we ask you to.
Delivery
We ship every Ryukyu glass order with tracking. We email you when your order ships, and again on the day it is due to arrive, so you can bring it inside promptly.
If your package is lost in transit and never recorded as delivered, contact us and we will make a replacement for you, or refund you in full if the piece is no longer available from the studio.
Once the carrier records your package as delivered, responsibility for it passes to you. If your tracking shows delivered and you cannot find the package, contact us within 7 days. We will file a claim with the carrier on your behalf and help however we can, though we cannot guarantee the outcome.
If you would rather collect your order from a carrier pickup location than have it left at your door, tell us in the order notes at checkout and we will arrange it at no extra cost.
Address Changes
We contact you when your order is ready to ship to confirm your delivery address. This is the final opportunity to make a change, so please respond promptly. If we do not hear from you, we ship to the address on file. Once your order has shipped we cannot redirect it, and any correction after that point is the customer's responsibility.
Where We Ship
Ryukyu glass ships within the contiguous 48 U.S. states only. We do not currently ship Ryukyu glass internationally.
Care
Ryukyu glass is not heat resistant and is not dishwasher safe. To keep your piece in good condition, please hand wash it with a soft sponge and mild detergent, and avoid:
- Hot water, boiling water, or rapid cooling. Sudden temperature changes can crack the glass
- Microwave, oven, and freezer
- Dishwashers and drying machines
- Metal sponges and abrasive cleaners
- Use for anything other than food and drink
Gifts
If you are buying Ryukyu glass as a gift, our production timeline, our cancellation terms, and our final sale terms all still apply. We do not currently offer gift wrapping or gift notes.
