Stone Path Wine Glass [石畳ワイングラス]
Made by Gaja Yoshihide, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft. In the early sixteenth century the Ryukyu court laid an official road through Shuri using local limestone. Gaja took its worn surface into glass: flat planes of color set against one another like paving.
This one is brown. On a stem, so the color lifts with the light coming from below.
Every piece is made by hand, so size, color, pattern and the way the bubbles sit will differ from one to the next. Not heatproof. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the drying cabinet and the freezer.
