Stone Path Plate S [石畳皿S]
Made by Gaja Yoshihide, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft. In the early sixteenth century the Ryukyu court laid an official road through Shuri using local limestone. Parts of that stone path came through the war intact and people still walk it today. Gaja took its worn surface into glass: flat planes of color set against one another like paving, quiet from across the room and detailed in the hand.
This one is blue. A small plate for a single dish. Sashimi, fruit, one good pastry.
Every piece is made by hand, so size, color, pattern and the way the bubbles sit will differ from one to the next. Not heatproof. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the drying cabinet and the freezer.
