Celestial Robe Small Bowl [美ら舞小鉢]
Made by Gaja Yoshihide, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft. Okinawa has its own telling of the heavenly robe legend, in which a celestial woman lifts away from the earth. Gaja built this series from gyoku, a translucent white glass, layered with silver leaf.
Deep enough for a side dish or ice cream, shallow enough to show what is in it.
Every piece is made by hand, so size, color, pattern and the way the bubbles sit will differ from one to the next. Not heatproof. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the drying cabinet and the freezer.
