Yuzu Shichimi Spice Blend [八幡屋礒五郎 柚子七味] 12g
A yuzu forward seven spice blend from Nagano, built on chili pepper, dried yuzu peel, mandarin orange peel, black and white sesame, perilla, sansho, and ginger. The aroma is bright and floral with a clear lift of citrus over a warm, layered chili base, and the heat is moderate and aromatic rather than blunt.
Shake over hot udon, soba, ramen, and miso soup for a fragrant citrus finish, dust onto grilled chicken, yakitori, and yakizakana, scatter over chawanmushi or oyakodon, or stir into ponzu for a quick dipping sauce.
Made by Yawataya Isogoro, founded in 1736 at the gates of Zenkoji Temple in Nagano City. Yawataya is one of Japan's three great shichimi houses and the only one rooted in the mountain spice tradition of Shinshu.
