Ryukyu: A Living Tradition in Okinawa — THE GALLERY by Odo

RYUKYU
A Living Tradition in Okinawa
Sunday, November 22, 2026 · 12:00–5:00 PM
The culture of the Ryukyu Kingdom, expressed through island dishes, handblown glass, and stencil-dyed textiles. A culture rebuilt from the ashes, as Shuri Castle rises once more.
01 · The Exhibition
Sunday, November 22, THE GALLERY by Odo
Following February’s Okinawa Fair, THE GALLERY by Odo and MOGMOG (NY) gather for one day: Ryukyu glass on view, a selection to take home that day and the rest to order, bingata on the walls, yachimun beside the glass, and an Okinawan menu by Chef Odo. Guests and the trade share the room, 12:00–5:00 PM.

02
The Glass
Born from bottles melted down after the war, Ryukyu glass is still shaped by hand in Okinawa. Bubbles and color make every piece its own.

03
What the Island Reflects
Each series holds a different Okinawa: its sea, its stars, its old stone paths. Some are by a Contemporary Master Craftsman, among Japan’s most honored artists.

04 · Sunday, November 22
For guests
Chef Hiroki Odo cooks with Okinawan ingredients brought over by MOGMOG, from kokuto brown sugar to island sea salt. Okinawa has a word for this food: nuchigusui, medicine for life.
The afternoon runs in three sessions: 12:00–1:30 PM, 1:30–3:00 PM, and 3:00–5:00 PM. Each session is limited to 50 guests, so please choose the one you plan to attend when you register. The glass, yachimun, and bingata are on view in every session. Come taste the island.
