Shisa Pair [南風窯 シーサー 中]
Fee gama is a kiln in Haebaru, Okinawa, where the potter Nakandakari makes shisa and little else. Shisa are lion dog guardians, set out to turn away trouble and keep good fortune in the house. By tradition the one with an open mouth lets fortune in and the one with a closed mouth keeps it from leaving, though people here will tell you there is no fixed rule. No two faces from this kiln come out the same.
