Set it down and leave it there. That is the whole idea of this decanter — a narrow, steady bottle that lives on the table rather than in a cupboard. Fill it with water for dinner, or with a wine that wants a little air. The Diamond lattice on the body catches the light and throws the window's color across the cloth. Pale Ice Green or quiet Smoky Black, both left just as the car's glass was. No two are alike, and that is the point.

A rocks glass earns its place by weight. This one sits low and steady in the hand, wide enough for a single large cube and a short pour of whiskey — or awamori, Okinawa's own distilled spirit, taken on the rocks the island way. As the ice melts, the Diamond lattice bends the light and the color shifts from green toward clear. Choose Ice Green or Smoky Black; each is the tint the car's window carried, with nothing added.

ロックグラスの良さは、手のなかの重みで決まります。低く、どっしりと構え、大きな氷をひとつ。ウイスキーか、沖縄の蒸留酒・泡盛を少しだけ。氷が溶けるにつれ、ダイヤ格子が光を曲げ、ガラスの色が緑から透明へと移ろいます。アイスグリーンか、スモーキーブラック。どちらも窓の色のまま、何も加えていません。

The small tumbler is the one that gets used most. Morning water. Cold barley tea in the afternoon. A short pour of something after dark. It is squat and easy to hold, and the Diamond lattice gives the fingers somewhere to rest. Hold it up to a window and you will see small bubbles drifting in the wall — the trace of glass that was once a car window. Ice Green or Smoky Black. Each one blown by hand in Itoman, and each one slightly its own.

いちばん出番が多いのは、小さなタンブラー。朝の水。午後の冷たい麦茶。夜、短く注ぐ一杯。低くて持ちやすく、ダイヤ格子が指の置き場になります。窓にかざすと、壁のなかに小さな気泡が漂っています。かつて車の窓だったガラスの痕跡です。アイスグリーンか、スモーキーブラック。糸満で一つずつ手で吹かれ、少しずつ違います。

Fill it all the way. The tall tumbler takes a full pour — iced coffee, a highball, water with a squeeze of shikuwasa, the small green citrus of Okinawa. A column of Ice Green or Smoky Black rises from the table, and the Diamond lattice runs its whole height, so the light travels down the glass in steps. It is heavier than a factory tumbler, because it was blown by hand from window glass. That weight is part of the pleasure.

A bud vase asks very little of you. One stem from the garden, a sprig from the market, a branch that was about to be cut back. Set it in this low, round vessel and the Ice Green glass does the rest — the water inside goes faintly green, and the Diamond lattice scatters the afternoon across the shelf. It was a car window once. Now it holds something living. Small enough for a windowsill, a desk, or the corner of a table.

Put it in the middle and let everyone reach. This large plate is made for sharing — sashimi on ice, summer fruit, a mound of cold noodles, or nothing at all, just the glass holding the light of the room. Ice Green runs pale at the rim and deepens toward the center where the glass is thickest, and a fine radial texture crosses the face. Made from car window glass, it is heavier than it looks, and it lies flat and quiet on the table.
