Water Shadow “Mizukage” Tumbler (Aqua / Green) [水影タンブラー]
Made to order in Okinawa. Please allow up to 8 weeks for delivery. See our Ryukyu Glass Policy.
Made by Tomori Ryu, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft. Light reaching the sand through several meters of water. The surface seen from underneath. The color a sea cave takes when a shaft of sun angles in. Tomori has spent years on what water does to light, and this series is where that work arrives.
This one is aqua. Tall and easy to hold. Water, tea, or a highball.
Every piece is made by hand, so size, color, pattern and the way the bubbles sit will differ from one to the next. Not heatproof. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the drying cabinet and the freezer.

Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft
Tomori Ryu, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft, looks not at the surface of water but at the light held inside it. His Water Shadow series was born from what he saw underwater: sand on the seabed, the surface seen from below, the colors a cave's light brings up. He is still chasing the shifting shadow of water, and setting it, moment by moment, into glass.
The series
Water Shadow (Mizukage)
Water Shadow reads the light inside the water rather than the surface. Sand seen underwater, the surface seen from below, the sea colors a cave's light brings up: the series holds the shifting shadow of water.
