Made by Teruya Mitsunori, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft. Yanbaru is the forest covering the north of the main island, dense and wet, home to species that live nowhere else on earth. This series is built on the light that comes down through those broadleaf trees and on what that light falls on.
A large plate for the middle of the table.
Every piece is made by hand, so size, color, pattern and the way the bubbles sit will differ from one to the next. Not heatproof. Keep it out of the dishwasher, the drying cabinet and the freezer.

Teruya Mitsunori, an Okinawa Prefectural Master of Craft, works from the sea and the forest of Okinawa. Subtropical Sea rose from the coral reef, a cradle of life, taking as its motif the small fish that leap between the waves. Yambaru Paradise turns to the yanbaru forest across the north of the island, and the many greens of the light falling through its leaves. His pieces hold both the brightness of the reef and the depth of the forest.

Yambaru Paradise (Yanbaru Rakuen)
Yambaru Paradise turns to the yanbaru forest across the north of the island. Layers of subtropical evergreens, and the light passing between their leaves, fall through the forest in many shades of green. In 2021 that living ecosystem was inscribed as a World Natural Heritage site.
